Industrial Relocation Checklist: From Facility Brief to Move Day

A phased checklist for companies relocating warehouse, manufacturing, distribution or service-commercial operations.

For planning and research. Not legal, engineering, tax, financial or regulated real estate advice.

WHO THIS IS FORFor operating teams coordinating a move without losing sight of customer service and business continuity.

Build the decision brief

A relocation project needs an owner, a timeline and a factual facility brief. Capture current area, utilization, workflow, loading, clear height, power, office, yard, parking, staffing and customer access.

Separate required items from preferences. This prevents a search from becoming either too broad to evaluate or so narrow that reasonable options are missed.

Evaluate total business impact

A facility change can affect inventory flow, labour commute, supplier routes, truck miles, customer experience, safety, equipment and technology. Add those effects to the occupancy cost analysis.

The property decision should be synchronized with lease dates, construction or improvement timing, equipment moves, notices and internal approval gates.

Plan the handover

Document the incoming condition, landlord work, tenant improvements, permits, systems testing, moving sequence and obligations for the prior site. Assign clear ownership for every dependency.

Use qualified advisors for the technical, legal, regulated real estate and financial aspects of the project.
